"In order to create a neat, professional and appealing Wikia, a style guide is best followed in order to standardise the creation and editing of pages."
~on the Wiki Style Guide.

This wiki page serves as a style manual for the wiki. The guidelines on this page will be applied for standardisation purposes and should be taken into account when making new pages, where possible.

Text

All articles are to be written in English, with the exceptions of dialogue or examples written in racial languages, ciphers or runes.

The names of races are to be capitalized (e.g. Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Kobolds).

All ranks and titles should be capitalized (e.g. Sir, Knight, Head of Trade, etc). Normal jobs (e.g. blacksmith, carpenter) should remain lowercase.

Hyphenated words, if they need to be capitalized, only do so for the first word.

Accents are common and care must be taken to ensure that they are used correctly (e.g. Espérer)

Links

All links should be in bold. This can be done by clicking the B or using crl+b. Links shouldn't include spaces or periods after the relevant words.

The first instances of anything that can link to another page, should be the first link, except those mentioned in the quote.

External links should be used where necessary, ideally to the official Minecraft Wiki or the website.

In example, the main page.

Quotations

Every page must have a Quote template at the top, with a relevant quote written in. This quote can come from any source; in-game, out of character or another website. In the case of character pages an in-character quote is preferred.

The Attribution on the quote must be either 'on X' where 'X' is the page in question, or attributed to a source.

A quotation which looks like this in the source editor...:

{{Quote | QUOTE = A short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. | ATTRIBUTION = on Dwarf Fortress}}

... will look like this on the page:

"A short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry."
~on Dwarf Fortress

This template must be used for any long qoutes that form their own paragraph.

Templates

As you might've noticed, some pages have templates at the top. An example of this is the "ST Approved" template. Such templates should always be put above the page qoute. The "ST Approved" template can naturally only be applied with ST approval.

Images

All images should be taken from in-game sources. They must be taken in F1 Mode to ensure that there are no health bars, or otherwise, in the picture.

If possible, only the vanilla texture pack should be used. Renders are suitable for larger locations.

Images of blocks should be taken from the render database on the Minecraft Wiki.

When making an image of an object with lore, the object should be the only thing in the player's inventory and should be placed in the top-left corner. The object should be clearly visible and the picture cropped to only include the object, the black box with the lore and a small portion of the inventory interface.

Art

Art should exclusively be used with consent. Consent can exist in the form of a Creative Commons license. Artists should be attributed (preferably in the text under the image) and where applicable licenses should be mentioned. Here is a list of Creative Commons licenses.

On the request of the artist(s), this attribution can also link to any website of theirs for people interested in their other works.

All this can be done by clicking the edit button that pops up when you click on images.

Pages

Any page that is created must be linked to another. It must also have sufficient information on there to warrant its creation. If insufficient information is written, the author must endeavor to discover more information.

Titles

Page titles use capitalization for all adjectives and nouns and never start with articles or use symbols. The page title is set when a new page is made. When this is not obeyed, redirects should be employed to ensure that an URL that obeys these rules links to the correct page. For redirecting, see the Community Central page on Redirects.

In example, the Wildchoir page is titled “Wildchoir”. No the. Never the.

Headings

Headings use capitalization for all adjectives and nouns just like page titles and also shouldn’t include symbols. That said, because they don’t decide the page URL they can use articles. When multiple headings would fall under one heading, sub-headings should be used instead. Sub-headings follow the same style guidelines as regular headings. You can alter the formatting of text into sub-headings or headings by clicking an option in the top left of the editor, which for regular text reads “paragraph”.

In example, the Imeris Entente page has a heading for “History” with a sub-heading for “The Varimanian Civil War”.

Objectivity

The wiki generally aims to give an ‘objective’ insight into the world of BWRP. The exception is when things are framed in subjectivity - such as the accounts of specific characters, quotes or myths.

In example, a section starting with “According to legend,” can get as subjective as it wants to be.

Precedent

It is generally recommended to look at old pages that fall in a similar category when making a new one. As such, the precedent set by older pages can be used, but this is not necessary. Sometimes standardization can add unnesecary details or break the flow of a page.

In example, not all organisations have hierarchies, but considering whether an organisation has one can be useful.

Wiki Users

A user may write what they wish on their user page, as long as it does not contain excessive profanity.

No articles about players, past or present, are to be made. This include previous Moderators, Storytellers or Admins. Their characters may be, if enough information is present.
